I loan because:: This is my way of giving a little back to helping others in housing or other social needs.
About me:: I manage public sector housing in a wee bit of Scotland. Elsewhere this form of housing is known as Council housing, Housing Association housing, affordable housing or public sector housing. These days, this sector largely (though not exclusively) exists to assist the more disadvantaged in society, such as the homeless and those on limited income, though this was not always the case. All this aside, disadvantage is all relative, as the KIVA site very clearly shows. But, if you are interested to find out more about this field of work, and housing is about creating sustainable communities, not just solely about bricks and mortar, (though that is a start if you have no shelter at all), then check out the professional body for housing, the Chartered Institute of Housing. It covers those working in or with an interest in this area based in Scotland, England, the rest of the UK and further afield (20 countries on five continents at the latest count in total).
