- My husband's father was from Afghanistan and my husband lived there until he was 7, 1977, when the Soviets invaded. His mother, brother and himself escaped the country with what they could fit in his mother's purse and left there family and beautiful home behind them. His father was a Captain for Ariana Airways and parked his plane in Europe and met up with them in the United States. My husband is a self made man and we have been blessed with successful careers and healthy children, Ariana, Evan, and Tye, and we feel that our good fortune should be shared with others.
