I loan because:
The great medieval Jewish sage Maimonides taught us that the highest form of tzedaka (charity) is giving to a person to establish a livelihood so that person will no longer need tzedaka. Jews have set up and contributed to free loan funds for various communities for millennia and kiva is an example of such a fund, albeit one whose reach is worldwide.
About me:
I have been an active lender on Kiva for almost ten years, and it is most gratifying to know I am doing my little bit to help good people all around the world.
