Bio:
Laurie joins Kiva while on sabbatical from her accounting position with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in Seattle. During her time with PwC, she has worked primarily with Financial Services clients while obtaining her CPA License. Prior to living in Seattle, Laurie grew up in Maine and earned undergraduate degrees in Accounting and Asian Studies at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. While at Lehigh, she participated in a summer program in Shanghai, China which jump started her passion for Asian culture. Post graduation, she returned to China to spend a year teaching oral English at a high school and was able to travel around China and South East Asia. From these travels, Laurie became interested in developing countries and ways, such as microfinance, to help alleviate poverty within them. She decided to take a sabbatical in order to spend time volunteering and is honored to be working as a Kiva Fellow. Laurie is excited to apply her financial services knowledge to work towards poverty alleviation in Indonesia and to continue her education about social and economic policies of developing countries and the role of microfinance.
