I loan because:
money is an enabler in the same way as eating food enables someone to be active. Likewise, too much of either makes you fat and lazy.

To change power structures you need to let go as well as empower. This does that.
About me:
I travel the world collecting stories and friends.

I am now a member of the 6th Class of Kiva Fellows serving in Peru with EDAPROSPO and PRISMA Peru.

Bio:
Growing up in Haiti, Ecuador, and Israel with a father working in international public health ensured Josh would one day work in international development. In high school he worked on projects in Mongolia, Tanzania, Ecuador, and Peru with various faith-based organizations. He attended Georgetown and studied Trans-State Actors in World Politics to learn about development and NGOs. While there, he directly matriculated at Universidad de Buenos Aires and FLACSO to learn about development from the other perspective. He went to UGA to learn organization theory and how organizational structures affect individuals' development intentions. This past summer he worked for the Carter Center and wrote a white paper for the Americas Program detailing the negative influence of pervasive inequality in Latin America. While at UGA, he learned about a new organization called Kiva that had the potential to effect positive change in microfinance - both for individuals and institutions. He is very excited to spend several months in Peru and Bolivia working with entrepreneurs like those documented in Hernando de Soto's El Otro Sendero and on behalf of an organization he's studied and admired for almost two years. Josh speaks English and Spanish, believes in the power of stories and microfinance, and hopes he will act as a good bridge between Kiva borrowers in Peru and Bolivia and their Kiva lenders around the world.
