I loan because:
We want to give people a chance to become self-sufficient and live an honourable life.

We believe that a hand up is better than a hand out, and that it needs to be both transparent and accountable.

We believe that planting many seeds of uplift in small and meaningful ways helps people become self-sustaining and strengthens both the economic and social fabric of communities. Micro-lending is the most direct and personal form of uplift and has the capacity for constant renewal.
About me:
The Giving Tree is not one person, but many.

This started out as a personal account in which I reinvested some of the gifts that had been given to me through my online business. I have been content creator in the Second Life online community for 6 years, and began investing a percentage of my sales income into people through microloans through a few online projects.

In 2008 I began inviting customers and friends to join me in creating a little uplift here at Kiva, which resulted in investing in the first 50 entrepreneurs during the first year.

While I am leaving Second Life to pursue new opportunities, the money invested here will continue to be paid forward to other entrepreneurs.

Namaste,
Sue.
