I loan because:
Personal involvement in microcredit seems like an ideal way to attack poverty. And Kiva's pioneering use of the online social networking concept to deliver funds to individual business owners in developing countries is brilliant. It builds a sense of connection across borders and cultures. On April 1, 2008, I made my first second generation loan. Thanks to the responsible payback by Mayra Palomino Del Aquila from Peru, the Hai Gam Group in Sudan had funds to support their business! And on May 15, 2009, their loan was paid in full so a third generation loan could be made. And now, August 16, 2009, I was able to make a new loan to Mayra Palomino to support the business she shares with her husband. On February 15, 2009, the first loan I ever made on Kiva was paid back in full by Chea Sophy in Cambodia.
About me:
I work in grant writing and interpretation services at the oldest public hospital in the U.S., Bellevue, and have always worked in public health. My passion, though, is scubadiving, and in the past ten years I've traveled to many beautiful sites across the world to view the coral reefs.
