Conservation & education
I loan because:
In 2001-02 I was a volunteer in Mombasa, Kenya, and every day I saw a disabled man pedalling a rickety homemade cart across a treacherous crossroads with his hands. He was a cobbler and worked on a street corner. I was overwhelmed by his determination and tenacity. Around that time he received a microcredit loan and later I saw him featured on a TV documentary, talking with pride about being better able to provide for his family despite being unable to walk. That's when I stopped putting it off and found Kiva. We all share the same planet, how can we afford not to help each other?!
About me:
I work in conservation - helping to protect the reef & rainforest in north east Australia and find a balance between use and non-use.
