I loan because:
I am an atheist, secular humanist and author of The God Virus: How Religion Infects Our Lives and Culture (IPC Press, 2009). I have been a member of Kiva for over two years and have found this to be a superb way to help people in a way that ensures the money is used wisely. I keep about $450 in circulation at any given time. That may sound like a lot, but it really isn't since I have loaned every dollar of that money many times. I decided that instead of just giving money to some charity and never seeing any results, I would put some of the money I normally give into Kiva. I have only had two $25 loans default in over two years and 60 or 70 loans (maybe more). Thanks to the Kiva staff for this great organization. I tell people about it at every opportunity.
