Bio:
Born and raised among the blatant inequalities of Mexico City, Carlos graduated from Brown University with a degree focus on development studies. To compare economic models he studied abroad in China, Mexico and Japan. For eight years he worked in Tokyo, London and New York as an investment banker specializing in Latin American Emerging Markets with Deutsche Bank and Citigroup. Carlos believes that economies cannot be understood without their cultural context and thus speaks Spanish and Japanese with native fluency while his Mandarin and Portuguese are intermediary. To glimpse how half the planet lives, he travelled Asia for ten months, from Indonesia to Turkey and back by land, on a budget of USD 2.00 per day. While at Kiva Carlos wants to develop a deeper understanding of the advantages and limitations of private, public and NGO led development.
