Carissa Look is a member of the 13th generation of her family born on an island off the coast of Massachusetts. Growing up there, she gained an appreciation of nature, community, and slow-paced island life. She went on to study Environmental Science at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado. During that time she had the opportunity to study ecology and conservation in Madagascar. This bigger island felt like home and Carissa has been inspired by the vistas and personalities of the continent ever since. A Master's candidate at Georgetown's School of Foreign Service, Carissa hopes to work in private sector development in Africa when she graduates. Her upcoming fellowship with KIVA in Ghana provides the perfect combination of challenge and opportunity and she is very eager to begin. In her spare time Carissa likes to go camping, surfing, and skiing.
