I loan because:
Because Kiva is an absolutely awesome concept and provides the opportunity to connect with people from vastly different backgrounds.
About me:
I'm a civil engineer which basically means I am responsible for the design and construction of infrastructure that some people take for granted, and some people don't have access to ie water supply and hydropower Recently I spent 3 months as a Kiva fellow in the Philippines and I am EXCITED because I am about to embark on another fellowship (class 13) to Uganda. Read more about my experience on My Blog.

Bio:
Anna trained as a civil engineer and has been working for the last three years for a New Zealand consultancy company. She believes that while engineering is not directly related to microfinance the two have some similar qualities in terms of analyzing the world and coming up with ways to improve the quality of life. Growing up in New Zealand, so far away from so much of the world, often sparks an innate curiosity and desire to travel. This desire to travel prompted a three-month trip post university through Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia. This trip awakened Anna's curiosity in the developing world. Upon returning from her travels she read an interesting article about an organization called Kiva. Then, relatively unaware of the potential of microfinance she was intrigued by the simplicity of the concept as well as the personal and direct approach to aid. Anna recently spent a year in the Philippines working on hydropower schemes in Davao, with a focus on providing reliable electricity, water supply and flood control to nearby communities. The desire to move beyond subsistence living is ever present within Philippines culture and Anna believes that microfinance provides an excellent platform to do this. She is looking forward to returning to the Philippines with a different purpose, as well as learning more about the world of microfinance.
