I loan because:
“By the grace of God I am what I am...” (1 Cor 15:10) The Lord Jesus had compassion on us even though we have done nothing to deserve His compassion. We want to show the same compassion to others. Jesus said “Freely you have received, freely give” (Matt 10:8). Even though the things we’ve done and the sin in our lives deserve only God’s punishment and had separated us from the perfect God who created us (Isa 59:2), Jesus rescued us from our sin by dying in our place and He rose from the dead proving that He really is God Himself (1 Cor 15; 1 Tim 3:16). Now all we have to do to become right with God is respond by “turning in repentance towards God and having faith in our Lord Jesus” (Acts 20:21). In other words, we each had to recognize the seriousness of our own sins and that there is nothing good that we can do to make ourselves right with God. We can only respond by confessing to Him our own sinfulness and submitting to Jesus as sovereign Lord, relying on His death in our place to satisfy the penalty for our sin (Rom 10:9). The Bible says “For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not because of good deeds we did to become right with Him, but because of His mercy” (Titus 3:3-5).
