I loan because:
First, microfinance provides the maximum impact on the lives of those less fortunate, for the relatively small amount of money we have available to contribute. Second, microfinance enables our contributions to have an ongoing impact, since microloans are repaid and can be lent out to new recipients over and over again. Finally, our involvement in microfinance provides an ongoing educational benefit for our members, as we systematically research the economics of poverty. Specifically, we research the regional economies of prospective loaning areas, evaluate loan proposals of persons applying for assistance from our MicroBank, and learn to manage the ongoing and growing loan portfolio. It is a primary goal of our group that we develop a viable financial institution that provides ongoing development assistance to the poor as it grows in both size and financial stability over time. While we all sometimes feel overwhelmed by the scope of the challenges facing our world, we are also inspired by the words of the famed anthropologist Margaret Mead: “Never doubt that a small group of committed, dedicated people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
About me:
Members of the Meadows MicroBank have agreed that our main objective is to develop an impactful approach to fighting poverty that could be managed by student volunteers and provide ongoing educational opportunities for the entire student body. We decided that Microfinance is the strategy that best meets our goals.
