Mrs. Maridel A. is 54 years old and married to Bernard, a fisherman. They have 9 children and 6 of them are married. Their source of income relies on her husband's fishing and her fish vending. Mrs. A. has been a Co-op member since 2004. She is good and religiously pays her obligations to the cooperative. She is borrowing the amount of PHP 20,000 for the acquisition of a new set of fishing nets. The loan will help her with additional income generation and with sustaining the daily needs of the family.
About Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative
Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) was founded in 1992 by the beneficiaries, parents and staff of the Paglaum Community Development Foundation to address economic and livelihood activities for sustainability. The organization operates in the northwestern provinces of Mindanao and Visayas.
In the local vernacular, “paglaum” means “hope.” The initial foundation is dedicated to child development through a holistic approach. The goal is to build self-reliance and expand opportunity so the poorest of the poor can help themselves.
