Kondowulay P. K. was born in Kabala, in northern Sierra Leone. He is in his early thirties, married with two children. Kondowulay runs a guest house in Kabala town with a small bar. In his bar, he sells both hard and soft drinks. With previous SMT loans, Kondowulay has been able to build two more structures onto his guest house to add to the two he previous had. Loans through SMT have made tremendous impact in the life of Kondowulay.
Having repaid the last loan successfully, he is now requesting a new one in order to further strengthen his business. With the profit he makes from the loan, he will be able to make his monthly repayments, feed himself and his children and wife, and send the children to school.
About Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT)
Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT) is Kiva’s oldest field partner in Sierra Leone. SMT began operations in 2002 as a microcredit program of the NGO Child Fund Sierra Leone under a USAID program to assist the reintegration of ex combatants back into their communities. Today, SMT offers group, agricultural, individual and salary loans to micro-entrepreneurs through six branches and one sub-branch in rural, urban, and peri-urban areas. By providing small loans and other financial services, SMT empowers poor clients to generate more income to help their families, improve their wellbeing, and create a more vibrant private small-business sector in Sierra Leone.
