Jose E. Chavez Batz is originally from the community of Juchanep, eight kilometers from the city of Totonicapan. In his community, he is known as Chepito. Since his childhood, he learned the art of weaving through the 80s and 90s. The western plateau is well known for the work put into this weaving. Today, Jose is fighting to keep his art and to generate new designs to be able to survive in the artisan market. He visited the Asdir offices to request a loan, which he will use to purchase materials for a new partner and thus improve the quality of life for his family.

Chavez Batz es originario de la comunidad de Juchanep a 8 Kilometros de la ciudad de Totonicapan en su comunidad es conocido como chepito, desde su niñez fue aprendiendo el arte de la tejeduria en las epocas de los ochenta y noventa la tejeduria por el altiplano del occidente es muy reconocido por la labor que se realiza en su preparacion don Jose hoy en dia el lucha para que su arte se mantenga y la cual va generando nuevos diseños para poder sobre vivir en el mercado de las artesanias el visita las oficinas de Asdir para solicitar un credito la cual lo invertira en la compra de materiales para un nuevo colaborador y con ello le permite mejora el nivel de vida y de su familia

ASDIR (Asociación de Desarrollo Integral Rural - Association for the Development of Rural Communities) is a community-based organization that works to promote development in the villages and communities where it serves. It was founded in 1999 in the village of Nimasac, Totonicapán Department, by a handful of local men and women to support community projects and group loans. Today ASDIR has 5 offices across 3 departments (Totonicapán, Sololá and Suchitepéquez) serving more than 6,000 clients, most of them in rural communities.
