Joyce T. is 49 years old. She is married and has given birth to five children, three males and two females. According to her, some of her children are currently learning trades while the rest are in junior high school. Her husband is a cocoa and palm nut farmer. Joyce lives with her husband and children in a rented apartment in a small farming community called Nkwateng in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The major occupation of the inhabitants, the men in particular, is farming. Most of the women, however, are into trading activities and palm oil production.
Joyce is also into palm oil production. She says she procures palm fruits from the local farmers and nearby farms. She adds the procured palm nuts to what she harvests from her husband’s farm. She distributes to customers who come to buy in bulk and retail. Joyce wants a loan to procure palm fruits in bulk so that she can produce the oil in bulk and distribute to her increasing number of customers. It is her dream to help her husband give their children the best education.
