Nalongo Hadijah Group

N. Hadijah is 34 years of age. She is married with three children aged 5 to 23 years.

She rents a two-room house with her family. She does have access to electricity but she has to fetch her water from the well. She always has two meals a day.

N. Hadijah has a salon and that is how she earns a living. She rents the shop that houses her salon and she receives about 15 customers a day. She has done this business for 19 years now and prior to this she had a retail shop.

This is the ninth loan she has received from Kiva's partner MCDT and she has been with MCDT for four years now. She has also worked with her group for four years.

She will use this loan buy oils for hair and braids for plaiting. She hopes to build a house from her savings.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
