Gifty A. is 32 years old. She is married and has three children -- a girl and two boys. Two of her children are currently in the primary school. The last born, however, is yet to start school. She says her husband has travelled abroad for greener pastures. She lives with the children in a rented apartment in a town called Dormaa Ahenkro in the Brong Ahafo region of Ghana. Dormaa is an agricultural-dominated town. It is about a 45 minute drive from Sunyani, the regional capital. Gifty sells eggs to make some income to provide for the family. She procures the eggs from the poultry farms in the surrounding villages, and then sells them in a store at the local market square. She sells mostly to retailers. Gifty says she has been in this business for six years. She wants a loan to increase her working capital so she can procure more eggs. She hopes to improve upon the standard of living of the family and give the children the best education she can afford.
