Martha T. is thirty two years old. She is widowed and has decided not to marry again. Martha has two children to bring up; a boy and a girl. She says one of her children is in senior high school while the other is in junior high school. Martha lives with her children in a rented house, in a town called Dormaa Ahenkro, in the Brong Ahafo region of Ghana. Dormaa is an agricultural town. It is about a forty five minutes drive from Sunyani, the regional capital.

She works very hard to provide for her family since she receives no other help. Martha is engaged in retailing activities. She sells utensils of all kinds and plastic products. She procures her products from Kumasi, a nearby city and sells in her community at the market square. She has been in business for eight years. She wants a loan to increase her working capital so that she can procure more products. She hopes to improve upon the family’s standard of living and give all her children the best education she can afford.
