R. is 33 years old and a resident of Banteay Meanchey Province, Cambodia. She has two children, both of whom are students. She is married to Koey, 39, who is a local farmer. R. has farmed since 2000 and she can earn $5 per day. Her farming land is located in a fertilized zone and near a water source. Recently, she is interested in the land surrounding her house. R. is asking for a loan of $1000 to buy a piece of land. The loan will help the family live more comfortably.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
