Ruqaiya baji is a 41 year old married lady and has been a resident of Ismail Nagar in Lahore city, Pakistan, for the past 22 years. Her husband, Dildar hussain, has a business selling blankets and has 12 years of experience. He buys blankets from different cities (Multan and Faisalabd) and resells them in his native city, Lahore. Ruqaiya baji helps him by going to these cities to buy supplies of blankets. She successfully repaid her two loans from Asasah (a microfinance institute of Pakistan). Now she is applying again for a loan to buy additional blankets and expand her husband’s business.

She is a loan group leader of several other women in her locality. Zeenat baji, Bhoolan baji and sabri baji each want a loan to buy blankets to resell. Shahnaz baji wants a loan to buy henna (decorative palm and foot color) to sell.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
