Nakato Hasfa Group

Hasfa N. is 38 years of age and married with five children. She rents a two room house and there a four people living with her. She does care for additional family and they have three meals a day. Her greatest expense is paying tuition for her children at school.

Hasfa N. is a tailor and that is how she earns her living. She works six days a week and rents the shop in which she sews. She receives about ten customers a day and most of them are men. She has done this particular kind of business for seven years now and prior to it she was selling water.

She complains of the rainy season because she receives few customers during that time. She has worked with MCDT for eight years and this is her sixteenth loan. She chose to work with MCDT because it was easy for her to join. She has worked with her group for eight years. She is going to use the loan to buy materials to sell. She wants to continue expanding her business to improve her wellbeing.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
