Rasim F. is a 39-year-old baker, married with five children. Rasim started his business two years ago, and before he was working as a baker in a local factory in his village. But in 2006 he decided to open a small bakery in his house. With saved money, he purchased a special pastry-making machine. This machine is old and Rasim applied for $1200 to purchase a modern pastry-making machine. He believes this will make bread-making easier and faster.
Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded by a group of 32 Imishli farmers in 2001, and has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Azerbaijan. It boasts a portfolio of nearly $5 million and is wholly owned by its more than 3,500 borrowers, as of December 2011.
