M. Godfrey is the chairperson of Kigalama development group in Mityana. He is 45 years of age and married with 6 children, of whom four are in school. He is a farmer with plantations of banana, maize, beans, rice and plantains and he is happy that they are giving him high quality yields due to the care he gives them. He employs men and women to help him on his farm along with his wife and children and as a result, he has food to feed his home as well as for sale.

This is the rainy season everywhere in Uganda and Godfrey is spending most of his time in the farm, overseeing all that is going on. He needs a loan to help with buying seedlings for his plantains as well as employing labor for his various plantations.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
