Mrs. Rebecca T., 40 years old, lives in Lumbayao, Aloran, Misamis Occidental with her husband and two children. Her husband is a construction worker. Unable to sustain the needs of the family with only her husband’s income, she has found ways to attain income through snack & food vending. It began with selling a small amount of viand & snack to their neighbors. She joined Paglaum Cooperative, which helped her in the capitalization of her sari-sari (small grocery) store in January of 2004. Mrs. Raguda became a MIGS member, which is why she has received loans several times already. Now, she applies for 14,900PHP to buy merchandise for her sari-sari store. She hopes that her business will continue and someday become a mini-grocery.
About Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative
Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) was founded in 1992 by the beneficiaries, parents and staff of the Paglaum Community Development Foundation to address economic and livelihood activities for sustainability. The organization operates in the northwestern provinces of Mindanao and Visayas.
In the local vernacular, “paglaum” means “hope.” The initial foundation is dedicated to child development through a holistic approach. The goal is to build self-reliance and expand opportunity so the poorest of the poor can help themselves.
