Khat's Group
In this Group: Khat, Hut, Khong, Khong
This group of borrowers consists of four people. Its leader, Mr. K., 39, earns a living by catching fish in and around Beung Tunle Sap Lake, an important place for fishing. He normally earns an average of US$ 3 a day from his fishing and has been doing this since 2000. He is married to Kun, 33, who works with him catching fish, and she also is a good mother to five children and cooks delicious foods.

K. is facing problems because his fishing implements break frequently, so he can't catch as many fish as before; thus, he needs a loan in order to purchase more fishing implements.

The other three borrowers are:

S., 55, a local fisherman who is requesting a loan to buy nets for his fishing business;

C., 36, who catches fish for sale, and is asking for a loan to purchase extra nets for fishing; and

C., 28, a grocery seller who is applying for a loan to buy grocery inventory.

The borrowers live in Chong Khneas Commune in Siem Reap Province.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
