In this Group: Safiatou , Anna , Sali , Selin , Malado , Djenebou
The members of the group Dembagnouma are 25 to 51 years old, married and have on average 5 children. They live in traditional extended families in the neighborhood of Ganabougou in the préfecture of Yanfolila (Third administrative region of the Republic of Mali).

These women sell various items and have been partners of Soro Yiriwaso for 3 years. This is their fifth group loan. All the previous loans have been fully reimbursed.

The women want to buy 10 pieces of Wax brand pagnes [traditional wrap around cloth] and a considerable quantity of cosmetic products (perfume, body cream etc...). They stock up in Bamako (The capital of Mali) at specialized wholesalers. They sell retail the cosmetic products and the fabric (cut up in several pieces "3 pagnes"), for cash or credit, in Yanfolila to customers who are mostly women. These commercial activities enable the women to make on average a monthly benefit of 40, 000 FCFA [about USD 78].

This allows them to reimburse their loan and cope with some of the household expenses (Health, education, clothing, etc...). In the future, each one of these women would like to increase their clientele, own a shop and add on other items.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
