Afia A. started her fish sales business 40 years ago in Koforidua, a suburb of Offinso in the Ashanti region of Ghana. She is 64 years old, married, and has six children, four of whom are fully independent, while the other two are still in school. Additionally, Afia also takes care of her three grandchildren who live with her.
Afia earns income preparing and selling very tasty and good quality fish to her many customers. She is very energetic and has plans for further expanding her business. She is therefore asking for a loan to be able to buy a larger quantity of fish to increase her sales and, consequently, income. Afia hopes to thereby be able to better support her children in obtaining education. Afia belongs to a village bank called ‘Fawohobo Nyame’ which means 'Be friends with Jesus.'
