Margaret's Group
In this Group: Margaret, Jennifer
Margaret N. is the leader of the Bbogo loan group in Lugazi. She is a very hard working lady and manages her businesses well. She sells a small silvery fish known as ‘mukene’ that she buys from the fishermen either late at night or very early in the morning depending on the fishing schedule and season. She then sells these fish to people at the landing site, in the village, and others in Lugazi. In addition to this business, she makes chapattis for customers for breakfast. Her sales depend on the weather, on some days she can use up to 1.5 packets of flour. Lastly, she has a small scale farm. Margaret is requesting a loan to buy more fish to sell and a carton of flour.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
