Mrs. Rosamie A. is 19 years old, married and a resident of Danao Plaridel, Misamis Occidental. Her husband is a fisherman. Since she married at an early age, she had to help her husband with his business. He catches fish to be sold to the public market or neighbors. They have been on this business for a year, and they decided to acquire additional fishing boats and fishing nets. They agreed to join Paglaum MPC last July 31, 2007, where they have used the financial services and other benefits such as insurance and savings deposit. They request a loan for $325. She hopes that their business will be successful so they can send their child to school.
About Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative
Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) was founded in 1992 by the beneficiaries, parents and staff of the Paglaum Community Development Foundation to address economic and livelihood activities for sustainability. The organization operates in the northwestern provinces of Mindanao and Visayas.
In the local vernacular, “paglaum” means “hope.” The initial foundation is dedicated to child development through a holistic approach. The goal is to build self-reliance and expand opportunity so the poorest of the poor can help themselves.
