The 8 women of the Dèmè group have an average age of 39. They are all married and half of them live in polygamous families with their parents-in-law and the others in households in the Bozo Diamarabougou district of Markala (fourth administrative region of the Republic of Mali). They have on average 4 children each and know each other because of friendships and from living in the same neighborhood. This group sells various items.

After having correctly reimbursed their preceding loans, the group is on their 4th loan in the amount of 1,000,000 F CFA which will be used to buy 90 baskets of fresh fish, 6 sacks of rice, 1 sack of "fonio" (a type of millet), 50 kgs of peaunts and various other items. They buy their fish on the banks of the Niger river; the rice and fonio are bought at the weekly markets of Diamarabougou and Dougabougou. The fish is sold in Markala and Ségou, either fried or smoked. The rice is sold as is, whereas the fonio is processed right in Bozo Kin Diamarabougou. Besides these products, they sell a little firewood as well as condiments bought in Fakelen and Diamarabougou where they are re-sold. These products are sold for cash or credit to a clientele composed of women and men.

They expect to make an average profit of 37,660 F CFA which will be used essentially to reimburse the Soro Yiriwaso loan and pay the school fees for their children. Their ambition is to grow their working capital and the volume of their businesses so as to be able to have their own homes one day.

PREMIER ET DERNIER FEED BACK

Entrepreneur: Dèmè Group
Location: Segou, Mali
