Fourteen people living in Srae Spey village in Kampong Cham province comprise this village bank loan, and they will use the loan for various purposes. Mr. BunT. E., the 47-year-old village bank president, is a farmer who owns a plot of land to cultivate vegetables. His wife, Mrs. Pench Muoy Shea, helps him in the farminig. In this plantation, they face a problem because they do not have vegetable seed to grow on the field. Thus, Mr. BunT. E. decided to ask for a loan to buy vegetable seed for growing on the field. He is the father of five children, four of whom are enrolled in the local school while the other is too young to work or study.

Nine members in this group loan have end-of-term loans and the rest have monthly payment loans. They are not required to pay any principal on the loan until the very end of the loan term. This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
