Mrs. L. is a 51 year old mother of five who lives in Orkrom Village in Siem Reap province. Two of her children are married and three remain single. Mrs. L. grows rice, while her husband catches fish for a living. He catches them in Tonle Sap Lake which contains the most fish in Cambodia. To sustain and improve her husband's fishing business, Mrs. L. needs a loan to purchase more fishing materials.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
