Afia A. is 42 years old. She is married and has two children – a boy and a girl. The girl is currently in high school while the boy is in university. Afia lives in Bibiani, a farming/mining community in the Western Region of Ghana. Afia’s husband is a farmer. She is an industrious woman. She sells smoked fish in the local market square to help provide for the family. She buys fresh fish and smokes it herself. She says the cost is economical in this way. She buys the fish from the bigger cold stores in the big cities such as Kumasi at wholesale prices. Afia has been in business for over ten years. She supplies mostly to food vendors in her community. She would like a loan to buy more fish in bulk so that she can sell to more customers.
