The member of "El Carmen" are represented by Blanca. This is a very diverse group in which a number of the members are related: there is kinship between the R. M. and Egüez J. families, but both families have independent sources of income. The members live in different areas but they conduct their business close to their group meeting home and they are guarantors for one another. The women of the group have a variety of businesses such as selling cosmetics, selling food, owning a grocery store; the men are rural public transportation drivers. The group members are aware of the unfair competition that exists in the market as well as the wide range of prices, but they are experienced at handling merchandise and in sales and are not concerned about the competition. The loan is intended to increase their goods and work materials. This is the members' second group loan: they have experience working cohesively together as they have shown with their responsibility and their honesty.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
