Irma, one of the members of this loan group, sells lamp oil, soft drinks, doughnuts, and omelette. She makes about US$ 70 in profit per week. She began working in business with her mother in 1988 when she was 11 years old. She used to sell beside her mother until she began her own business with a capital of US$ 5 in 1992.

Irma began purchasing and re-selling about 10 kilograms of corn. Over the years, her business sometimes stopped because of her studies, but she did not close completely. In April 2008, Irma decided to join Solidarité Community Bank, one of Hope’s groups (a DRCongo Microfinance Program), and she has received three loans. Through the funds received from Hope’s loans, Irma’s business began to expand and she was able to stabilize her merchandise.

With the new loan, Irma will purchase an ice chest, 2 cartons of eggs, and a crate of soft drinks to expand her product offerings to her customers. Irma believes that she will increase her profit by selling these new products. She is 32 years old, single, and has a 3-year-old boy. She lives with her parents. Irma’s dream is to open a fresh food store.

Irma Fataki est très reconnaissante

Entrepreneur: Solidarité Group
Location: Kinshasa, The Democratic Republic of the Congo
