Mariama Cherif's Group's story

This Banc Villageois was created on December 1, 2009. It consists of women who have built strong ties of solidarity and support over time. They have also managed to expand their experience within the program and in their respective activities, and despite challenging circumstances they remain deeply committed to developing income-generating activities. All members of this group live in the same village; they practice small trade, animal breeding and rain-fed farming.

Mrs. Mariama (standing at the far right and raising her hand) is the featured borrower from the group. She is married with seven children, four girls and three boys. She is 38 years old.

Mariama practices cattle and goat fattening; to that end she buys the animals at the local weekly markets and sells them for a good price at a later date, in her own village and neighboring hamlets. She will use this new loan to buy a calf for 70,000 FCFA and two goats for 10,000 to 12,500 FCFA.

She will use her profits to better contribute to the management of her family's needs by covering expenses pertaining to healthcare, food, and the children's tuition.
