Maria Efigenia
M. is a 57 year old married teacher who has worked in the Elaisa Sandoval de Juigalpa school for the past 32 years. She has two college educated children who are both currently priests. She lives with her husband who works in BANCENTRO in Santo Tomas and must travel daily. She is requesting her second loan from AFODENIC in order to improve her home by painting it and repairing the inside as far as the loan will allow. If she can't afford it all with the loan, she will prioritize painting it and will request other loans to finish the rest. She had never used loans before but now feels encouraged by her interactions with AFODENIC and she will continue to work with them.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
