Ebenezer M. is a hard-working businessman. He is 62 years old and is married with three kids. Fortunately, all the kids are independent now, easing his burden. He trades in rubber products like polythene bags; these bags come in various sizes and colors, and are mostly used for packing of all kinds. Ebenezer buys his supply of raw materials from the capital city of Ghana. He enjoys his trade very much but says that prices of raw materials have shot up drastically and transport costs have gone up due to the current fuel crisis. These difficulties have rendered his working capital inadequate to purchase appreciable quantities of materials to sell. He therefore needs this loan to inject additional capital into his business to enable him meet the demands of the market. He wants to use the loan to buy an increased supply of raw materials so that he can turn them into finish goods for his customers and increase his profits. Ebenezer hopes to increase his savings to pay for his house rent. He is a member of the community group called The Voice Trust Group. In this group, members vouch for one another as social collateral to repay their loans. Ebenezer’s picture was taken at one of his group meetings.
