Hon H. is 38 years old, married and lives with her three children in the city of Batambong, in Siem Reap province of Cambodia. She operates a grocery store, earning an income of about US$5 a day. Her husband is ill and must stay at home. Food prices have soared in the past year as inflation has gotten out of control in Cambodia. Unfavorable climate conditions have also played a factor in making the price of rice very high.
Hon H. is requesting a loan of US$400 to purchase additional groceries to meet her customer's demand. She is confident that this will be a good business venture and sees it as a tool to increase her income and raise her family’s standard of living.
