Maly, a local farmer from Kampong Cham province, is 41 years old and married. She is a mother of three children; one is too young for schooling and two are in school. The main sources of her income are from her cassava farming and her husband's job as a local doctor.

This is the first loan for Maly with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). She decided to get an education loan in order to support her daughter who wants to pursue the bachelor's degree, majoring in midwifery. Maly hopes that her daughter can get a good job after graduation.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
