Akil is a 31-year-old married man with two young children, living in Bint Jbeil, Southern Lebanon. A car mechanic for several years, he opened his own workshop in 2000. He took his first micro-loan to buy tools for his shop and introduce additional services. As his business is expanding, Akil wants to borrow US$1,200 to ameliorate the technology he possesses by buying a lifting apparatus for trucks.
Due to political and social challenges in Lebanon, personally identifiable attributes entrepreneurs may have been altered to protect their privacy (i.e., blurring portions of the borrower's picture, not indicating a name and location, etc.). Vitas appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to continue their support for Lebanon's borrowers.
