Mariam is married with five children, four of whom go to school. She also takes care of an additional family member (sister). She has a business of selling maize flour and soda and has been in this business for many years. She has applied for a loan of 1200000 Uganda shillings from MCDT-SACCO to buy bags of maize flour and crates of soda. She generates additional income from a beauty salon. She works in a shop six days out of every week and sells wholesale. Her major business challenges include transportation and seasonality. She is aspiring of owning a delivery van to ease her transportation challenge and also to educate her children up to university. She resides in the family house and the family has access to electricity and piped water. Her monthly expenses includes school fees and rent for her business premises .
