Ahoi In Group
Tingvah, 45, is the featured member of the group (with her hand raised) who is a daily wage earner. Both she and her husband work as a daily wage earners and have been supporting their family with their humble income. They have five college-going children who are diligent in their studies. They have been supporting their children’s education with much financial difficulty in the hope that they will get government jobs in the near future and will be able to support their parents.
Due to frequent failure in power supply in their area, the study hours of the children are disturbed in the evenings and at night. They cannot study their lessons according to their desire and have to shorten their study hours due to frequent power cuts.
Since they got the solar home lighting system, the children do not face problems during their study hours anymore and are able to study without any problems and with comfort. As the mother works outside the house during daytime, most of the household chores need to be done mostly in the early morning and evenings. She is also able to perform her household chores with comfort and better environment after dusk. She said it was all thanks to WSDS for lending them such a loan that helped them to live a comfortable and fulfilling life.

WSDS-Initiate is an inclusive nonprofit that works with women across all tribes and minority communities in Manipur, located in the remote northeast region of India. Most organizations concentrate their work in the plains region of Manipur, but WSDS is among the very few organizations serving women in the isolated hills. Political unrest and frequent economic blockades in the area make it very difficult to provide services, resulting in Manipur having the lowest penetration of financial services in the country.
This is a Group Loan
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
