Andrew is 26 years old and married with one child. He earns his income through the sale of crops and livestock products, especially eggs from his poultry project. He grows maize, coffee, beans, and bananas. He also has chicken, a cow, and goats.
Andrew looks forward to becoming a Community Knowledge Worker (CKW) supervisor. As a CKW supervisor he will use the materials in his business-in-a-box (smartphone and solar charging) to support other CKWs and disseminate vital agricultural information to the other members of his village, helping them to improve their crop yields and increase their incomes. He will also personally offer CKW services to farmers.
With the additional money that he will earn as a CKW, Andrew will expand his poultry project and construct a new poultry house. His biggest dream in life is to become a leading supplier of eggs and poultry feeds in his community!
More information about this loan
This loan is part of Grameen Foundation's AppLab program and Community Knowledge Worker initiative, providing borrowers with mobile phones, solar chargers and other equipment to become knowledge centers for their smallholder farming communities.
With these tools, community knowledge workers can help their neighbors access information and advice to improve their crop yields, connect with markets and generate more income. They can also conduct mobile surveys to help local organizations better meet farmers' needs. Community knowledge workers make monthly salaries based on the number of surveys they collect, enabling them to repay Grameen for the equipment.
This Kiva loan will be used to provide borrowers with needed goods or services, as opposed to cash or financial credit
