Cipriana is a 62-year-old married woman from Leyte, Philippines. She has been involved in the fishing business with her husband for more than 30 years now. This is the primary source of her income.

Several months ago, their fishing boat was ruined when a typhoon hit the country. Cipriana is now asking for a loan to buy new fishing nets, plywood and nails so they can repair the fishing boat. With this loan, her husband will be able to go back to fishing, thus giving them more fish to sell in the market. In the future, Cipriana hopes to make their business a success.

On Friday November 8, 2013, Super Typhoon Haiyan made its way through Southeast Asia, causing substantial damage to homes and businesses in areas of the Philippines. These loans will be directed to borrowers living in affected areas and help them to rebuild and recover.

Given the state of devastation following this storm, borrowers living and working in these areas may have difficulty making repayments on their loans, thus making their Kiva loans higher risk.
