Despite her business presenting ups and downs over the two years, it has gone well for her, owing to that she has been able to deal with the acquired obligations. Her business is a stationery store. She counts on a healthy list of customers, thanks to the good treatment and form of payment that she provides to her customers, who are family members, neighbors, school children, and workers from different businesses and institutions in the community of Limón.
She has obtained various loans from the Fundación and has always shown punctuality and responsibility. Now, she is requesting another loan to reinforce her store by purchasing women’s and men’s clothing for her store and so satisfy her customers and generate a higher income to improve her and her family’s quality of life.

In Costa Rica, funding for microfinance institutions is hard to come by, and many institutions find themselves having difficulty growing and reaching all the demand for loans that exist. Kiva works with Fundacion Mujer because it attends a very marginalized population in Costa Rica, with a specific focus on women. In addition to the loan, Fundacion Mujer provides specialized training programs for their borrowers on everything from computer classes to salon training. Because of the difficulty in obtaining capital in Costa Rica, Fundacion Mujer cannot serve all the women that need loans. Therefore Kiva plays a unique role in helping Fundacion Mujer grow its portfolio and reach borrowers it otherwise would not be able to.
