Alpana is a young and energetic woman of 28 years from Maynaguri. She is married, and has two children (one son and one daughter). She has an elementary education. Her children go to school. One of her children is a student of grade 2 and the other is too young for school. They live in a remote village, Tekatuli, in the district of Jalpaiguri.

Alpana's husband Sanjay is a musician by profession and has a party band. He and his group perform musical shows in every kind of community party. They play different kinds of musical instruments and sing songs at different social occasions. In this community, most of the people play musical instruments at weddings, birthdays, and other occasions. He has been in this business for many years. Alpana is also engaged with the same business. The summer is a popular time for people to get married, which generates much business for him and he is well paid to run his family well. He also rents musical instruments when there is any special ceremony in the village.

Now he would like to purchase a few musical instruments as some of them are not working properly; he's looking to buy more castanets and drums.

So Alpana is asking for the loan from BJS (Kiva's partner) to purchase some musical instruments. She hopes this loan will help them to grow his business and generate more income to run her family smoothly. She has a dream to admit her children to a renowned school, which she hopes would be possible through this loan.

She thanks her lenders BJS and Kiva.
